Hygiene Training for the Textile Sector
COVID-19 hygiene training programme for the textile industry in India

Background:
In 2020, the COVID-19 crisis in India had prompted the Indian Governments to put in place different curfews and restrictions on operations in factories to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus.
Although the conditions improved slightly at the end of 2020, the occurrence of the second coronavirus wave crippled the textile industries in India as local governments imposed mandatory closure of textile plants. This is especially true for manufacturers in Maharashtra, West Bengal, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Gujarat where there is a large density of textile producers.
IGCC in cooperation with GIZ and Business Scouts for Development developed and conducted training programmes for management and staff working in the textile industry, providing recommendations on how to develop robust hygiene concepts for the production sites upon reopening.
Goals:
✔ Support the compliance of human health and safety standards in times of COVID-19 at textile production sites,
✔ Enhance the resilience of those businesses and value chains,
✔ Strengthen knowledge and awareness on anti-pandemic/hygiene related topics,
✔ Guarantee a broad dissemination of knowledge and awareness raising through a train-the-trainer approach
Approach:
Textile manufacturing businesses were capacitated towards the compliance of anti-COVID-19 and future pandemics hygiene standards through context appropriate means, including:
➞ virtual trainings for managers of textile production sites
➞ virtual trainings for internal trainers
➞ educational awareness videos

The training was virtually attended by 125 participants from the textile industry and concluded with the inspection of 3 textile factories in Coimbatore.
